Achillea millefolium var. occidentalis.
Western Yarrow is a vital native wildflower and pollinator plant in North America, particularly well-suited to areas with recently disturbed soil. This characteristic makes its seeds ideal for planting around construction sites, septic berms, and roadside areas. The plant typically grows between 25-90 cm (10-36") tall and features densely hairy, lacy, fern-like leaves. Its long bloom period, from May to September, attracts a variety of beneficial insects such as predatory wasps, ladybird beetles, and hoverflies. Western Yarrow is also highly drought-resistant, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and erosion control. Additionally, it is widely used in New Zealand as pasture.
