Rossa di Milano is a thrips-resistant, long-day onion known for producing large to colossal bulbs with the classic grano shape and distinct flattened tops. Its thin necks dry down easily, making it ideal for long storage—lasting 6 months or more. Wrapped in strong, bronze-pink skins, these onions offer impressive uniformity.
Perfect for cooking, Rossa di Milano delivers a rich balance of sweetness and pungency, elevating any dish with its bold flavour. Whether in soups, roasts, or sautés, this versatile onion is a must-have for every kitchen.
Harvest the onions when the bulbs have reached their desired size and the tops have started to yellow and fall over.

Planting Instructions:
- Plant onion seeds outdoors in early spring or indoors in late winter and early spring, and transplant 2-4 weeks after the last frost date.
- Sow the seeds 1/4 inch (6 mm) deep in well-draining soil enriched with compost or organic matter. If planting indoors, sow seeds densely, as they can easily be separating when planting outside later.
- Trim the onions to 1.5 inches from the base once they have reached about 4 inches high. This encourages stronger, bigger roots.
- Space the seeds or seedlings about 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) apart in rows that are 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) apart.
- Seeds should germinate within 7-14 days.
- As the onions grow, thin them to the final spacing recommended for mature bulbs, typically 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) apart.
- Cure onions in a cool, dry and dark space and then store in a cool, dark spot.
