~40 - 45 Seeds

De Cicco Broccoli is a beloved Italian heirloom known for its extended harvest and versatility. This multi-cut variety starts with 3–4" main heads that grow above the foliage, followed by abundant side-shoot spears for a continuous yield.

Its nonuniform maturity allows for a longer picking season compared to other sprouting broccoli. Ideal for spring or fall gardens, this variety thrives with pinching to boost side-shoot production. It’s a perfect addition to your garden for fresh, delicious broccoli over a longer season.

Heirloom De Cicco Broccoli may offer smaller heads, but more intense flavour and potentially higher nutrient levels.

Growing Instructions:

Starting Indoors: For an early start, sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your last spring frost. Plant seeds ¼ inch (6 mm) deep in seed-starting mix and keep them at 18–21°C (65–70°F) for best germination. Once seedlings have 2–3 sets of leaves, harden them off by gradually introducing them to outdoor conditions over a week. Transplant to the garden when they are 4–6 weeks old and daytime temperatures stay above 10°C (50°F).

Direct Sowing Outdoors: In areas with mild springs, seeds can be sown directly in the garden 2–4 weeks before the last frost. Once seedlings are a few inches tall, thin to appropriate spacing.

Growing Tips:

  • For a longer harvest, try succession planting—sow seeds every 2–3 weeks to keep a steady supply throughout the season. A fall crop can be started in late summer, about 10–12 weeks before your first frost.
  • If outdoors, cover young plants and seedlings with insect netting or frost cloth to protect from flea beetles, who love to feast on tender brassicas.
