Growing Instructions:
Sow seeds indoors (preferred) 8–10 weeks before the last frost date or direct sow in late fall for natural stratification. Seeds benefit from a 30-day period of cold stratification if starting indoors to improve germination. Press seeds lightly into the soil surface, as they need light to germinate. Use a heat mat set to 65–70°F (18–21°C) for more consistent results. Keep moist until seedlings establish. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed, spacing plants 12–15 inches (30–38 cm) apart in full sun. Water regularly during the first growing season; once established, Liatris tolerates dry conditions.
Outdoor seeding not recommended but can be tried anytime in late fall - winter, allowing 30 days of cold stratification outdoors before the weather warms up.
