Spring can be a very busy time for gardeners. If you are keen to get a head start, you may want to try direct seeding some of your flower seeds in the fall, for spring germination.
There are many flower seeds that can handle the cold winter temperatures, and if seeded early (fall or late winter), you could be rewarded with earlier germination.

Tips For Fall Seeding
Wait Until Late Winter?
While we applaud you for wanting to get a head start on things, a less risky option is to wait until winter is wrapping up, the snow is gone, but the ground is still very cold. This reduces the chances of seeds getting washed away or eaten by birds.
Mark Your Spot
If you do direct sow seeds, be sure to clearly mark where you’ve planted and what you’ve planted. A good outdoor marker helps reduce the chances of your seed markers fading.
